A Dialogue Game to Challenge Ageism and Promote Healthy Ageing

Timeline: February - June 2024

Overview

We set out to address ageism — a deeply ingrained but often invisible form of discrimination — by creating an interactive tool that could spark honest, empathetic conversations between generations. Through co-design with older adults, caregivers, and community members, we developed a dialogue-based game aimed at reframing perceptions of ageing and promoting inclusion.

The Challenge

Ageism is often subtle, hidden in everyday language and assumptions, yet it affects opportunities, mental health, and quality of life for older adults.

Our challenge was to design an engaging, non-threatening way to raise awareness and encourage people to rethink their views on ageing.

The Approach

We followed a participatory design process, involving stakeholders as equal partners in shaping the solution.

  • Research & Insights.

Conducted interviews, workshops, and literature review to uncover stereotypes and systemic challenges around ageing.

  • Co-Design Sessions

Facilitated creative activities with older adults, community members, and professionals to ideate game mechanics and scenarios.

  • Prototyping

Built and tested low-fidelity versions of the game to refine content, tone, and interaction style.

  • Playtesting & Feedback

Iteratively tested with mixed-age groups, gathering feedback on engagement, emotional safety, and impact.
